WORK EXPERIENCE: 

Graduate Instructor at Brigham Young University | August 2020-Current

  • Taught the introductory writing course (Writing 150) to twenty freshmen students. Tasks included preparing engaging lesson plans, crafting a syllabus, grading papers with specific feedback for improvements, and managing the day-to-day tasks of the class. 

  • Students learning persuasive writing (through ethos, logos, and pathos) and how to effectively craft a college-level research paper. 

Associate Editor at Poe Studies: History, Theory, Interpretation | August 2020-Current

  • Assisted in preparing literary articles for publication. Tasks include: copywriting and source checking, with particular attention to Chicago Manual Style

  • Matched Poe-related books to professionals working in that particular area of expertise for book reviews for the journal.  

Legal Assistant at the Law Office of Gary L. Fales & Associates| March 2020-August 2020

  • Maintained the firm’s legal maintenance program through imputing important paperwork into multiple databases, taking client payments, and assisting clients with questions regarding our services. 

  • Helped with the new marketing program at the law firm, due to the coronavirus, including setting up a Facebook account, supervising Facebook lives, and editing blog content. 

Freelance English Tutor | January 2019-January 2020

  • Met one-on-one with elementary, middle school, and high school students to assist them with crafting a variety of assignments, including the five-paragraph essay, poetry, grammar, and spelling words. 

  • Managed appointment times, reported to parents of progress, and helped to keep students on task with their assignments. 

Writing Internship with BYU’s Inscape Literary Journal | September 2018-December 2018

  • Learned to edit, read, and anticipate literary pieces that would properly reflect the themes and purpose of Inscape. 

  • Archived pieces for Inscape and gained experience working with WordPress, as well as learning the proper techniques and skills for the archival process. 

Creative Content Developer & Editor at European Family Camping | August 2017-2018

  • Edited, posed, and developed three-five blog posts a week in a timely manner for grammar, punctuation, and overall content that would match the intended audience of the company. 

  • Formatted, captured, and organized hundreds of photographs for posts.

Presenter at BYU’s English Symposium Winter 2021

  • In this digital conference, I presented my paper “Using Technology for Effective Feedback in First-Year Writing Courses,” in a five-minute “Petcha Kutcha” format over Zoom.

Presenter at BYU’s English Symposium Winter 2020

  • My presentation “Elements of Visual Rhetoric through the Infographic,” was selected for the panel, “The Range of Rhetoric,” to students and faculty in BYU’s English Department.  

Presenter at BYU’s Religious Symposium Winter 2019 

  • Selected to present my paper, “Learning by Episcopal Example: Peace and Welcome to Worshipers” to a large audience, including professors from BYU’s Religion Department.


CERTIFICATIONS AND AWARDS 

Winner of the BYU 2019 English Symposium’s 3MP (Three Minute Thesis Presentation)

  • First-place winner of a thesis competition in which students must present a well-researched thesis to a panel of judges. My paper was titled, “Mesmerism through Aestheticism in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s ‘The Birthmark.’” 


VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: 

Co-Intern at Brigham Young University for English 312: Persuasive Writing

  • Under the direction of my mentor, I helped to co-teach an advanced writing course to juniors and seniors. I planned lessons, graded assignments, and assisted in adapting the class to a remotely-taught format.  

Co-President of the Graduate Student Association | Fall 2020, Winter 2021

  • Brainstormed, planned, and organized a variety of activities for fellow graduate students at Brigham Young University’s MA program. 

  • Attended monthly meetings with the Graduate Directors to vocalize the needs and concerns of graduate students to faculty members.

  • Worked one-on-one with an author to prepare literary criticism for publication.
